America expends a great deal of effort assessing what works best in schools and how to relay important information about teaching and learning to school teachers – but what about children and teens’ #1 teachers: their parents? Or what about the other adults who spend countless hours with children and teens after school?
So, I am asking you, teacher to parent, parent to parent: What topics about teaching and learning are you most interested in? Fostering curiosity in children? Effective feedback for kids and teens – how it changes as they get older?
What would you like to learn more about in regards to child and adolescent development?
What aspects of the systems and strategies that create the best teachers and bring out the best of kids would you like to know about?
Ways to nurture responsible, goal-oriented children in and out of school? Homework tips? Cutting-edge, low-cost educational technology that not enough schools use (yet)? Ways to coach your child to communicate effectively with his or her teacher(s)?
I, Dr. Karla, will take the best learning strategies and bring them down “From the Ivory Tower to Your Kitchen Table” (or at least to your computer screen!), but I need your help. Please comment, challenge me (and each other), cheer each other on.
